I’ve put up, as a page header, a photo of the 32-km long Afsluitdijk in Holland.  As I get to know the Netherlands better, I have been deeply impressed by the way the Dutch have solved immense problems.  On my last visit, in August this year with my girlfriend (who is Dutch), I got to drive over this impressive artefact, a product of vision, design and sheer hard labour and collaboration that has both saved  the northern parts of Holland from flooding and enabled them to create more new Polder land from the sea. To me this represents a monument to the ethos of good design.
